The aim of the article is to analyze the researches on efficiency of cognitive therapy techniques (MBCT and MBSR), which are based on the mindfulness in working with self-consciousness in health and mental disorders. There were summarized the possibilities of use of the methods based on Mindfulness aimed at development of self-consciousness, prevention and correction of its disorders.

Main part

During the analyses of foreign and domestic studies of mindfulness practices (MBCT and MBSR) effectiveness working with self-awareness in normal conditions and in case of mental disorders, reliable data were obtained proving that mindfulness practices develop skills in controlling impulses, attentiveness, organization, stress resistance , as well as it influence the development of emotional intelligence. Mindfulness practitioners have an increased density of gray matter in the hippocampus, which supports several cognitive processes, as well as in the regions of the brain responsible for self-awareness and introspection. Mindfulness meditation, as foreign studies show, can be an effective method of preventing neuropsychiatric disorders, including those associated with impaired functioning of self-awareness (schizophrenic spectrum disorders, clinical depression, anxiety, traumatic and stress disorders, bipolar disorder). Mindfulness meditation helps to reduce the clinical manifestations of schizophrenia and other schizophrenic spectrum disorders, negative symptoms, alleviate and reduce the number of relapses, and increase the level of self-awareness of patients in this category.

Analysis of research data reveals that the use of mindfulness practices has significant potential in the development of self-awareness, prevention, and correction of its disorders. Further research on the efficiency of Mindfulness working with self-identification, and the influence of mindfulness practices on the formation and correction of identity also seems significant and interesting.
